About Us
HISTORY:
The original building (literally a hut!) was opened in 1963 as a meeting place for the local Conservation Society and a resting point for walkers. The building after being rebuilt in the late 1980's was leased to commercial operators by the Deptartment of Environment & Climate Change (DECC), known then as National Parks and Wildlife Service. From the original Hut some of the old bricks were incorporated into the design to create the fireplace that now warms the new building.
Part of the concept of the design was to incorporate space to house two beautiful triptych paintings by Reinis Zusters. These paintings, owned by Blue Mountains City Council have a natural home at the Hut and were a gift to the people of the Blue Mountains from Venita and Reinis in gratitude to Australia for providing them with a home from their native Latvia after WW2.
